Tips for making simple fruit kebabs
Fresh fruit: don’t cut your fruit too far in advance. The fresher your fruit is the better. We suggest cutting it at most the day before and storing washed and dried fruit in an airtight container to maintain freshness. Always store chopped melon in a separate container to prevent juices from coating the rest of your fruit.
Tip* Dry fruit thoroughly after washing it to prevent it from getting mushy or soggy when it sits in the refrigerator. Use paper towel to soak up extra moisture.
Bite sized pieces: cut larger fruit into bite sized pieces that can easily be threaded on your wooden sticks. Fruit that needs to be chopped includes large fruits like melons, papaya, pineapple, passion fruit.
Use cookie cutters: make fun shapes using fruit cutters or even a melon baller to make your simple food skewers even more fun. In our simple fruit skewers we cut melon into fun little hearts to make our skewers more visually appealing.
Soak in lemon juice: certain fruits have the tendency to brown shortly after being cut. Bananas, apples, pears and peaches need to be soaked in a small amount of acidic liquid from either lemon or lime juice to prevent browning.
Tip* Use little bit of lemon juice (approximately 1 tablespoon) to one cup of water. Soak your fruits in this mixture for up to 24 hours to prevent browning.
Build the rainbow: Create rainbow kebabs or alternate colors to create unique designs. Fruits come in so many beautiful colors that it’s easy to create a combination of colors and flavors to please guests.
Chill before eating: store prepared kabobs in the refrigerator for 30 minutes or up to 24 hours to help firm them up before serving.
Add a garnish: garnish your fruity kabobs with fresh mint, maple syrup or chocolate drizzle.
Pair with a dip: there are so many easy recipe ideas available on the internet for delicious fruit dips. See the options we listed above. Otherwise use pre-packaged dips like Nutella, Biscoff, whipped cream cheese frosting, or yogurt to make things quick and easy.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can I prepare fruit skewers the night before?
Yes you can! Once you thread fruit on skewers make sure to store them in an airtight container in the refrigerator in a single layer.
Fruits tend to create excess juices which can make the fruit turn soggy. If you have to stack your fruit kebabs you can use plastic wrap to divide your layers and prevent liquids from turning your fruit skewers soggy.
How do you keep fruit skewers from turning brown?
Certain fruits like bananas, apples, pears and peaches tend to turn brown shortly after they are cut.
The best way to prevent this from happening is by coating them in a little bit of acid from lemon or lime juice.
Prepare a mixture of 1 cup of cold water to 1 tablespoon of juice and soak your cut fruits to prevent browning.
This method will prevent your fruit from browning for about 24 hours. We do not suggest you plan to keep fruit soaking for longer than that.
Soaking fresh fruit in liquids for too long will alter their texture.
How do you cut fruit for fruit kebabs?
When cutting fruit for your fruit skewers we suggest cutting your fruits into bite sized pieces.
Fruits like berries, grapes and tangerine slices do not need to be cut.
But, larger fruits like pineapple, melons, papaya and dragon fruit need to be cut into bite sized pieces that are easy to thread onto your skewer.
How long do fruit kebabs keep in the refrigerator?
Fruit kebabs can keep up to 3 days in the regrigerator. Beyond 3 days the fruits start to get soggy and may start to change colors and textures.
Do I need to soak my wooden skewers?
No you do not. You’d only have to soak your wooden skewers if you were planning to cook or grill your fruit skewers.
Can I use metal skewers?
We prefer to use 4 inch wooden skewers when making simple fruit kebabs since there is no cooking involved.
Metal skewers can also oxidize and alter the texture and color of your fruit.
How do you cut your fruit into fun shapes?
We love using fruit and vegetable cutters to create creative fruit shapes. This is such a fun way to create some visual appeal and make your simple fruit kebabs really stand out.
Can I use other types of sticks?
You sure can. We used wooden sticks that measured approximately 4 inches.
But, you can easily opt to use bigger or smaller sticks depending on your needs. Some options include lollipop sticks, cocktail sticks or olive picks.
